Frequently Asked Questions

  • The purpose of coaching to support people in their own self-discovery and skill-building. Sessions are structured to ask questions about the present and set plans and goals for the future.

Therapy and counseling are more geared toward exploring how issues or experiences in the past may be impacting the present moment. Consulting seeks expertise to identify, suggest, or facilitate solutions.

I've been in all three roles, and they each have their strengths and challenges. While consultants and counselors often utilize coaching tools in their work, and some coaching sessions may have a therapeutic impact, the modalities are distinct.

  • I have been working and volunteering in and alongside nonprofit, philanthropic, and community organizations for almost 20 years. In that time, I’ve been an educator, facilitator, strategist, administrator, fundraiser, grantmaker, and leader around racial, gender, disability, immigration, reproductive, birth, and healing justice.

I also went to grad school for social work, public health, and nonprofit management; completed fellowships with Rockwood Leadership and NYU’s Wagner School; and participated in additional training with AORTA, Training for Change, Reframe Health and Justice, TRACC4Movements, Mental Health First Aid, and the Certified Life Coach Institute.

  • I offer sliding scale fees for all consulting, coaching, and care services. For groups and organizations, this is based on budget, from less than $100K to more than $5M. For individuals, this is self-designated and usually includes three levels (solidarity, true cost, & redistribution).

  • Consulting, training, and speaking services are possible for in-person participation, as long as certain COVID protection practices are implemented. Depending on the location, I may also require travel, lodging, meals, and other incidentals as part of the contract negotiation process.

Thought partnership, coaching, and grief care are currently offered virtually for new clients, with some availability for in-person group grief care for social justice and movement formations.

  • Yes, definitely! My goal is meeting your consulting, coaching, and care support needs, so I’m happy to combine services in a way that balances budget, goals, and capacity. For example, I’ve combined public keynotes with small-group discussions, consulting projects with coaching sessions, and trainings with grief / loss care.
